Arknights: Endfield has fans wondering how it connects to the original Arknights tower defense game. While Endfield isn't a direct sequel, it's definitely set in the same universe and appears to take place in the future. Here's what we know about how the two games are related and what that means for the story.
Is Arknights: Endfield a Sequel to Arknights?

Arknights: Endfield is not a direct sequel to Arknights, but the two games share the same universe. Endfield takes place on Talos-II, a natural satellite (moon) that was discovered through an Aethergate by Terrans from the planet Terra—the main setting of the original Arknights.
Aethergates are portals that connect different locations, and one was discovered in Terra's polar north region of Sami during the events of Arknights. This portal is likely the same one used to reach Talos-II, establishing a direct link between the two games. While they exist in the same world, Endfield tells its own story in a different location and time period.

The Reconveners Explained
Many Endfield characters look similar to operators from Arknights. These are called Reconveners—special operators created from data of the original Arknights operators.
When Terra discovered Talos-II through the Aethergate, they brought the First Originium Crystal with them. This crystal contained stored data and memories from operators back on Terra, but it was damaged during the First Aggeloi War. The data became corrupted and trapped in something called the Assimilated Universe.
Warfarin, Rhodes Island's leader during this period, found a way to decode these corrupted data shards and guide them into the physical world of Talos-II. When a data shard is successfully decrypted, it manifests as a Reconvener—a new individual based on an original operator from Arknights.
Reconveners aren't clones. They retain partial memories and skills from their original counterparts on Terra but develop their own personalities. This is why characters in Endfield look like operators from Arknights but may act differently. They're essentially reconstructed versions born from the stored data of the originals.
Rhodes Island Connection
Rhodes Island, the pharmaceutical company and main faction from Arknights, is confirmed to exist in Endfield. Several character profiles mention that operators like Laevatain, Gilberta, and Snowshine are Rhodes Island Operators assigned to work with Endfield Industries on Talos-II.
This partnership suggests that Rhodes Island is actively involved in exploring and colonizing Talos-II, though it's unclear exactly what their goals are. Whether these operators are the same characters from Arknights or different individuals using similar codenames remains unknown.

Chen and Other Familiar Faces
One character generating speculation is Chen, who appears in Endfield. It's unclear whether she's a descendant of the original Chen from Arknights or a Reconvener created from Chen's data. In-game text mentions that Chen comes from "the house of Chen" and that her family line was famous, which could support either interpretation.
Other characters who look similar to Arknights operators are likely Reconveners, though the game hasn't confirmed every character's origin yet. The distinction between descendants, Reconveners, and potentially the original operators themselves adds an interesting layer of mystery to the story.
